Summit Grove at Jillians in Las Vegas

Summit Grove originated in early December 2007 through a Christian youth program called YoungLife, where Jason Carter and Vincent Rennie met and discussed making music. Vincent had written a song entitled "The One I'm Searching For" (later renamed "Jump Start My Broken Heart") for his Creative Writing class as a make-up assignment for unexcused work. The song eventually caught the attention of Jason when discussing starting the band with Vincent, so the song officially became the first on the bill for the project. After dropping out of the band One Pin Short a year before, Dominic Rennie (Vincent's brother) quickly became the drummer for the no-named band. Before the band would get any further, a name was to be decided .. writing out over twenty names on a white board, nothing had been decided. It wasn't until Brad was heading home that the name Summit Grove popped in his head. Through a telephone call, the name became official.

On February 1st Summit Grove competed and won the Fusion Battle of the Bands at Central Christian sparking new interest from music seekers across the Vegas valley. On April 12 of 2008, Summit Grove was already playing with bands such as Secondhand Serenade, despite only being 5 months old. With promising shows ahead, Summit Grove will be producing new sounds and a highly anticipated EP.

This Romantic Tragedy at Jillians Las Vegas

This Romantic Tragedy performing at Jillians, Las Vegas

Las Vegas has become the new "hot bed" for rock acts and This Romantic Tragedy in just a short year has gathered an enormous fan base of loyal followers. This can be attributed to tantalizing song writing team of long time friends David Diaz and Kyle Huender, the two guitarists in the band, who spend much of their free time crafting new songs and improving on some of the old ones. The sound is original, but one can find traces of all kind of musical styles in their songs, but in the end the band labels it as Experimental, Screamo and Hardcore. The sound relies on the harmonizing guitars and keyboards, while punctuated by a very strong rhythm section of thumping bass, and pedal to metal drums. The songs could be instrumentals but that would leave no place to express the strong and sensitive lyrics. The vocals completes the tight package, and becomes the link that captivates the fans, who often complete and sing along to the lyrics.

In many ways, Jet Lag Gemini are early bloomers. While the New Jersey-based band met and formed while still in their early teens during high school, one wouldn’t suspect youth or a lack of experience from their mature and polished sound. Representing three countries between them, lead singer/rhythm guitarist, Misha Safonov (22), emigrated from Russia in 1993, lead guitarist, Vlad Gheorghiu (18) and his brother and bass player, Matt Gheorghiu (20), came to the U.S. seven years ago from Romania. Rounding out the band, drummer Dan Diliberto (18), the lone non-immigrant of the group, grew up in New Jersey

The band’s first EP, Business (Doghouse Records 2006), with its playful and classic rock leanings, merely hinted at things to come. Jet Lag Gemini’s knack for blending the energy of more abrasive bands with great pop hooks and hair-raising guitar solos, has won them countless fans both locally and nationwide. This culminated in several national tours including dates on the Vans Warped Tour, as well as playing with Hellogoodbye, The Almost, The Matches, Halifax, and others.

The fiery opener, “Run This City,” from the band’s debut album, Fire The Cannons, demonstrates its unusual flare for dramatic melodies. Led by Misha’s commanding voice, Vlad’s unrelenting guitar heroics, and Matt and Dan’s driving rhythm, the album packs a powerful punch.

“The firing of the cannons signifies both the beginning and end of the battle,” says Jet Lag Gemini frontman, Misha Safonov. “Fire The Cannons traces the steps in the battle of self acceptance. These songs are about changes, loss of friendships and the dreaded arrival of responsibilities you face in the roller coaster days known as growing up. While these songs are very personal, I think we’ve managed to make an album that anyone can relate to.”

Produced by Jon Kaplan (The Starting Line, Lola Ray), Fire The Cannons is the perfect marriage of both shimmery pop and rock ‘n’ roll grit, and will be released by Doghouse Records on January 22, 2008. It will be a rock odyssey you will surely not want to miss.
