Well, the Las Vegas monorail system is officially a mess. It is a multimillion dollar flop to begin the story. It has lost money from the day it was conceived. The system faced numerous issues with delays during the construction phase. Now, a wheel fell of a car as it was being used.
What?
A 60 lb., 20 inch wheel fell off of the freaking monorail to the pavement below. That is crazy. Now, the whole system is setting mothballed while they try to figure out HOW.
So, I am reading a story in the San Francisco Chronicle and Todd Walker, spokesman for Transit Systems Management LLC (the management firm for this fiasco) was interviewed and he says this could have been avoided. Really? Because, I'd hope this is not something that would happen again and again and again because they couldn't avoid it.
I mean, if they could have avoided it the first time they should have, right? In all honesty, Todd's firm doesn't handle the maintenance of the monorail. A company called Bombardier (the contractor) does...
So, the site, Las Vegas Monorail claims you should "Get ready for a transportation sensation!" I'm not sure this is what the PR Folks have in mind.
There is some good news. If you should survive your ride on the Monorail, you can turn your ticket in at the Flamingo for $5 in free slot play. If you bring in any extra parts you find on the ground you can get free buffets. Soon, they will be having an Adopt The Monorail program. You know, free stuff in exchange for monorail parts. I wonder what a wheel will be worth.
OK, so the first part is true about the free slot play. The rest probably just resides in a PR guys mind.
I need to get to work on "I survived the monorail" shirts.
