There is not much in the news to report on today (or bitch about). Maybe, I will add something later.

I do want to tell you that we added a ton of Poker related items to the website today. There are great DVD's, instructional books, just tons of stuff. You can find it here.

The Hofbrauhaus is open. I am hungry. There is a movie there to watch (Although I couldn't get my DSL to keep up :))

Steve Wynn is rumored to be announcing plans for Phase 2 of WYNN. When? Real Soon. Sorry, I couldn't resist. You can take a tour of Phase 1 (under construction) here.

A minor fire hit the Circus Circus last night. It was different than the typical fire of minors that are at Circus Circus running around and wreaking havoc on their way to the Amusement Park.

Circus Circus has to be one of my least favorite casinos on the strip. The Craps game is always boring and the slots are ultra tight for me. I usually stop in one morning every trip when I stay at the Riviera.

A poster on one of the LV boards suggested adding an accelerant to the fire might be just. I'd never condone that. While I'm not a fan, I hate to see "progress". La Concha and Algiers have both been or are going to be removed from their properties in the near future. Trump is going to build a new "non casino" hotel on property near the Frontier property. He is also a large shareholder in the Riviera. Wonder what the "Keeper Of The Apprentice" is up to...

I know I promised daily posts but the damn blogger software was down...

It is Responsible Gaming Education Week. I hope you celebrate wisely. Disclaimer: I realize it is the week the casinos pat themselves on the back for putting out the little pamphlets next to the cashier's window with the headline, "Has The Fun Stopped?". Let me ask you something, when you are at the cashier's window cashing in your chips from your big craps win or cashing in your nickels from your big jackpot win, has the fun stopped? Maybe, they should put those near the ATM so you see them when you go for that Casino Cash fix and really get raped. You think the odds are bad on the slots? Hell, the service charge for getting your cash is really outrageous. Anyway, I have a dream. I hope that in the near future, Responsible Gaming Education Week might be a week where the dealers actually save you from making a dumb play. You know, things like doubling down on 20 or playing Snake Eyes constantly at Craps. Picture this...You are playing the slots. A casino rep walks up to explain to you that the odds are that for every $100 you put in, we are going to keep $20 of it. Over the long haul, that is. But, right now we are probably going to take the whole $100. That would be responsible gaming. Even better, maybe the casinos can eliminate the unfair 6:5 BJ Tables, the Short Pay VP machines, and the rigged Wheel Of Fortune machines! Then, I would celebrate Responsible Gaming "Education" Week.

Las Vegas Stinks....

Las Vegas Officials are saying they are going to allocate $100,000 to try and stop the stench on Fremont Street. The sewer smell is getting to them. I, honestly, have never had the pleasure of the smelly olefactory of scents.

Is it worse than the stench in front of Caesars? That is a place I dread walking. I do, however, have a few ideas of where the smell might be emenating.

1. Try looking in Binion's. The reports are that Harrah's raised quite a stink on the Downtown when they reopened Binions but removed the heart and soul of the legendary casino and replaced it with a corporate feel called "The Strip".

2. Maybe the smell is coming from the offices of the people who run The Fremont Street Experience. They are non renewing the leases of several "non kiosk" tenants of the FSE with just a ten day notice. So, you will no longer be able to watch The Sculpture Guy. Marge - The Boa Consrictor, and the Angel Feathers Bird Show. All gone.

3. Neonopolis--The place has been dead since it was "born". A nice structure but is dying from the inside out through mismanagement and a tenant mix that is just plain unattractive. Maybe the smell is the rotting of the whole complex.

4. Finally, the Western. I was there for the first time in February. If you consider "there" being about 3 minutes. I felt like I was in a nursing home for down and out and degenerate gamblers. I hear the security guard needs to check your room before you can check out. I wonder how often they find dead bodies there.

So, what is my point? The point is that perhaps the smell is, in fact, a symbolic stench. If you remove the smell would the stench still exist? My vote is yes.

On another note, I attended my 15th Class Reunion last night. Hello to the class of 1989 of West Muskingum High School. In about an hour, we are touring our old high school and the site of the new high school. Our old high school is destined for the wrecking ball, I understand. Sad.
