I took my 61 year old father to Las Vegas with me last week. He had last been to Las Vegas in 1980. Thus, he was essentially a Las Vegas virgin. It was funny to watch him play one nickel at a time on the slot machine also inserting just one dollar. I believe he made almost $2.50 for the trip gambling wise. Maybe I am doing something wrong :)
He enjoys watching and seeing the people. He would comment that every person had a story then he would recite all of the possibilities. I took him to Fremont Street, then knowing he loves a good adventure, we trekked to the Western and El Cortez. The Western had a security guard for roughly every 5 customers. The El Cortez was hot and smelled really bad.
It was sad to see Binions all closed up. I am looking forward to it being open in my next trip in June. Fitzgeralds was the best to me on the whole trip. I was cranking on this Buffet .01 slot machine.
The Tropicana was our home on this trip. My dad preferred it to the new megaresorts. I tend to like it as well. The rumors are flying as to what will happen at the Tropicana. The only consensus is that the casino will stay open in some form. That is the profit center.
I imagine the parking garage collapse in AC may have set them back as well.
